  • ArmourBox is a subscription box from Under Armour designed to provide athletes and gym-goers (both men and women) with the apparel and accessories they need to perform, look, and feel their best.
  • After you create a profile, an  Under Armour "Official Outfitter" picks four to six items based on your preferences.
  • You only pay for the items you want to keep and can ship back the ones you don't want for free. If you decide to keep everything, you'll get 20% off.
  • I tested it out, and it's made preparing for the gym easier and has helped me perform my workouts at a higher level.

As a product writer and someone who is heavily into style, I spend a lot of time focusing on my wardrobe. Between learning about new products, shopping, and putting together outfits, clothes are a big part of my everyday life, with the exception of one category: workout gear.

For me, workout gear has always been a last-minute thought. For that reason, I'd end up putting on the first few pieces of gear I could find in my closet. While wearing a mash-up of brands and colors that didn't go together was typically the extent of my problem, being underprepared for the specific workout quickly became an issue as the seasons changed and my selection of shorts and tees wouldn't cut it.

I knew what types of apparel I needed and about how much I was willing to spend, but actively shopping for workout gear was something I never really wanted to do. My struggles finally came to an end when I started using ArmourBox, Under Armour's subscription box for athletes.

Designed to give people everything they need to perform, look, and feel better regardless of their skill level, fitness goals, or preferred activities, ArmourBox is a fully customizable subscription that won't break the bank.

Under Armour

Rather than paying a hefty fixed amount for gear you might not need or want, you have control over how often you receive ArmourBox and how much you spend on it. You can select to get a shipment every 30, 60, or 90 days, and you'll only pay for the items you want to keep. The items you don't want can be sent back completely free of charge. If you do decide to keep everything, you'll get 20% off the order.

You can absolutely end up spending a lot of money on ArmourBox over the course of a year if you opt to receive one every 30 days and decide to keep everything, but you can control how much you spend by only buying the items you actually want.

Here's how it works: To get started, you fill out a quick survey asking about your fitness goals (starting to get active, maintaining fitness, or improving your game), sports of interest, style preferences, and sizes. You're not pigeon-holed into choosing one option from each category, so it is possible to create boxes with a variety if there is some overlap. You can even write a more detailed response to get the most accurate selection of apparel.

Under Armour

Once you've filled out the questionnaire, a stylist, known as an "Under Armour Official Outfitter" will select four to six items to send out.

I had the opportunity to go through the ArmourBox subscription process and it has made preparing for workouts a lot easier. Essentially, all of the work you'd have to do every time you go shopping for clothes is done once at sign up and the rest of the work is handled by Under Armour.

I personally selected training, weightlifting, and running at the gym and outside as my sports settings and a combination of "Clean & Classic" and "Ahead of the Game" as my style. Overall, I was very happy with all of the items I received in my ArmourBox

Beyond the high quality Under Armour products provide, what I like best about ArmourBox is how much thought and consideration goes into the selection process. For example, if you received an item that you're less likely to need duplicates of like sneakers, earphones, or a water bottle, you won't see it repeated in the next month. On the other hand, items that do need to be stocked, like shirts, sport leggings, and shorts, will come more frequently — especially if you highlight favorite products to your Official Outfitter.

Under Armour

I didn't have to send any of the items I received back, but having the option to do so is reassuring. All you have to do is notify Under Armour of the return via the ArmourBox dashboard and send the items back within 7 days using the box and pre-paid shipping label.

While I personally never tried the Adidas Avenue A subscription while it was around (it was for women only), it's clear why its $150 quarterly fee ($600 annually) and no-return policy forced them to end the program and go back to the drawing board. This format makes much more sense, and gives the customer complete control over what they do or don't want to buy.

Making time for the gym and staying dedicated is enough work — but knowing that I no longer have to go through the trouble of shopping for workout gear is a bit of a relief. On top of that, having the right clothes for specific workouts, whether I'm running or lifting, makes it a lot easier to perform at the best of my abilities.
